I saw this question as a weekly topic for a newsletter that I receive, and I took a minute to think about. I thought about all those little things together that make someone nice – or at least what I think makes them nice – and you know what…
I AM too nice!
I never say no. Not at home. Not with family. Not at work. Not with my own company. Pretty much if someone asks me to do something or help, I do. I hate placing the burden on someone else to do the job. Many times I find it easier to do the job myself then asking for help or delegating. Trust me, I’m worn out, I need to delegate.
I thought for a second, what happens if I finally say, “No.”
Will people see this as a big fat, LEAVE ME ALONE? Will people think I’m… R-U-D-E?
Not only do I need to learn to say no to people, I need to learn to ask for help or delegate those tasks that I do have or those I take on. I don’t mind helping out, but I’ve realized thinking about this today that I need to take care of me, first, and that includes those tasks that are truly mine. Then, I can help out those where needed.
I can still be nice without giving a YES to everyone.
