Never Changing Books
If you you follow me on Twitter then you probably have seen a few tweets recently that mention @Momologie. Yep, I have about fifty variations on pronunciation of Momologie, but one thing that seems to have not changed since I began reading is the comfort of the daily newsletter that Michelle and Gia send out.
I have let these two ladies into my home every day by way of a simple newsletter that offers daily tips on the simple pleasures of life. Each day brings one new article that so far has not let me down. The ladies, or MiGi (their company name – and oh so cute!) have shared with me a great breakfast smoothie that my nine year old LOVES to the best mix ‘n match accessories that are a must for the soon cool weather.
Now, I’m not writing this post for you to jump on the bandwagon and begin following or reading… well, maybe a bit… it is more for the joy of books! Yes. And how did I get from Momologie to books? Well, I was reading the Momologie blog tonight and a post titled, The Simplicity of Story Time, really caught me.
My children are older, 13 and 9, but my 9 year old, well she loves for me to read to her. I’m currently reading to her one of my favorite books of all time, A Wrinkle in Time. She is loving it. This little bit of time carved out late at night or early on a Sunday morning is our time to explore the creation given to us between the book cover. It is, in her words, “fun” to bring the written words to life.
As I thought about my reading time with my daughter, I began to really think about the Kindle I’ve been thinking about buying and I realized why I haven’t bought one, yet. Again, back to the creation between the book cover. Yep, I’m kind of old fashion when it comes to books. I enjoy the intimacy that I have with a book while I’m reading, from the color of the cover, to the feel of the paper when I turn the page.
I’m a sucker for the bookstore. I enjoy going into the store, grabbing my Starbucks hot chocolate – kids temperature, of course – and then wandering around the stacks. Checking out what’s new, grabbing a book I’ve never seen before, even browsing the children’s section; usually always purchasing a book that would never be my first choice of read, but always falling in love.
The plastic card hanging from my key chain, yes it is my library card. It’s my quiet time during lunch to go pick up a book by Jane Austen, check it out, and read to ease my mind. I take comfort in knowing that this same book may have sparked greatness in someone. I also love the morning reading times at our local library. The little faces of the children as their imagination takes flight… I see that same face in my daughter when I read to her.
These little things, I’ve realized, are why I haven’t yet bought a Kindle, and may never buy one. I’m afraid I will lose these little things, the reasons that reading is still magical for me. My intimate time with my mind. It’s funny how one little post can help you remember why reading can be one love of your life.
Pick up a book today and enjoy the written word.
